January 2008 - Behind the Scenes with Melanie Milburne

This year for our Monthly Feature we want to take you "behind the scenes" and give you a glimpse of some part of what went into the books you're going to read this year. So each month you will find one or more Harlequin Presents authors talking about some aspect of what helped them get that book on paper.

It might be the idea that began the story. It might be a research trip or an interview or who knows what! Being a writer means getting to do all sorts of interesting stuff and meeting all sorts of interesting people. It also means finding ideas where other people might not. So stay tuned . . .

Our January "Behind the Book" feature comes from Melanie Milburne. Bought For Her Baby is being released this month.

If you have a suggestion for a monthly topic, send it to us via our feedback link.

My book is called Bought for Her Baby and the inspiration came from reading an autobiography of a young bookish high achiever who had just one taste of heroin from a boyfriend. She became totally hooked and as a result worked on the streets and in several brothels to feed her habit. It was a heartbreaking read as it made me realise how much her loving family suffered. She had a lovely sister and a mum and dad who loved her so unconditionally. They would have done anything to get their lovely daughter back and I am glad to say they did in the end do so. My heroine Charlotte had exactly the same love for her sister Stacey and when Damon, the Greek man she had had a brief but disastrous affair with turns up she has an even bigger surprise in store for him. Her daughter Emily is her whole world and the thought of Damon taking her from her given her sister's on going addiction is heart wrenching. I hope you enjoy their journey to find their love and the forgiveness that brought about Stacey's return to health and happiness.

With warm wishes,

Melanie
