India Grey's
Biography
Growing up as the only girl in a family with 3 handsome and competitive brothers,
India Grey learnt a thing or two about alpha males at a very young age. Unsurprisingly
she also spent a large proportion of her time with her head buried in a book!
At
the age of around 13 she was wandering along the street in her very small home
town when she saw a poster advertising the film Mutiny on the Bounty, and in
a sudden flash of insight realised she’d been born into the wrong
century. Romance, passion, danger, and men in tight breeches and billowing
white shirts were disappointingly thin on the ground in late twentieth-century
Cheshire. However, having suddenly identified what it was she wanted out of
life, and being realistic enough (just about) to grasp the fact that time-travel
wasn’t an option, she did the next best thing and sent off to Harlequin
Mills & Boon for their writers’ guidelines, and started to create
her own, more romantic versions of reality!
Perhaps mercifully her efforts were curtailed by academic demands, and she
later found herself at Manchester University studying English Language and
Literature. On the very last night of her three years there, she met and fell
instantly in love with a man who fulfilled a spooky number of her romantic
fantasies (though not the ones about tight breeches and billowing shirts...).
Rushing headlong into marriage and babies, India rather neglected to apply
herself to a career, day-dreaming her way through a series of part time jobs
(all of which she was notably awful at) which she fitted in around the rigors
of family life. In 2004 she was fortunate enough to meet bestselling Harlequin
Presents author Penny Jordan, who managed to convince her that the idea of
writing romance for a living wasn’t necessarily just another wild fantasy.
Three years later, with the publication of her first novel The Italian’s
Defiant Mistress, India is under no illusion about the hard work and long hours
required, but has to admit it still feels like a dream!
