Robyn Donald's Biography

When I began reading romances, I enjoyed them so much I wanted desperately to write my own. They read so easily that I was certain it couldn't be too difficult. Writers, I assumed, spent time each day in a hammock or one of those wonderful chaise lounges, and waited for their plots to strike. I was sure there'd be a muse - a graceful Greek maiden with a brilliant imagination and a superb grasp of English - who would hover enthusiastically over my right shoulder, effortlessly prompting me when I couldn't come up with the right word...

After an hour I'd get up, well pleased with the perfect pages I'd produced, and the rest of the day would involve light gardening, answering fan letters, speaking to Hollywood agents and being about ten pounds lighter. And reading every romance that came my way.

After 63 books, I have to say I've never seen a sign of that Greek maiden in her flowing clothes. As for the hammock - forget it.

Not that I'm complaining. I probably wouldn't enjoy such a languid life, anyway. After all, as well as the son and daughter my husband and I raised and sent out into the world, I have another 126 children - the ones who arrived in my brain in their various ways. I've enjoyed meeting them, and although several of them caused me a lot of trouble, they all matured into charming and interesting people. I know this, because kind people tell me so!

Two who have just started their journey to publication are Paige Howard and Marc Corbett - a woman down on her luck, and a half-French tycoon with a legacy to deliver.

This year North America has a double dose of Presents in June and July - A RUTHLESS PASSION, which tells the story of Cat and Nick, forced to meet again after bitter years apart, followed by THE TEMPTRESS OF TARIKA BAY. Morna, the heroine of this Presents, is Nick's foster sister, so you get to see how things are going for him and Cat.

I'm now deeply enmeshed in the turbulent affair between Princess Lucia Bagraton of Dacia and Hunt Radcliffe, who has every reason to despise the woman he wants...
